Xiang Zhao (赵翔) is currently a full professor at College of Systems Engineering, National University of Defense Technology (NUDT), China, where he also serves as the head of the direction of knowledge systems engineering. During 2015-2019, he was also a concurrent research fellow at Collaborative Innovation Center of Geospatial Technology, China, led by Prof. Deren Li (李德仁) and Prof. Jianya Gong (龚健雅).
During 2020-2021, he was a visiting scholar at Xi'an Jiaotong University under the supervision of Prof. Qinghua Zheng (郑庆华). In 2013, he got PhD of Computer Science and Engineering, the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Australia, under the supervision of Prof. Xuemin Lin (林学民), and his joint-supervisor is A/Prof. Raymond Wong, co-supervisor is Dr. Chuan Xiao. He also performed research at Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) under a project led by A/Prof. Kerry Taylor and National Information and Communication Technology Australia (NICTA, now Data61@CSIRO) under a project lead by A/Prof. Jian Zhang. Prior to that, he got his Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems Engineering at NUDT in 2008.
He is a distinguished member of China Computer Federation (CCF), the deputy secretary general of CCF Technical Committee on Information Sytems, a member of CCF Expert Committee on Big Data, an executive member of CCF Technical Committee on Databases and Data Governance Development Committee, a member of Technical Committees on Language and Knowledge Computing, and BigSearch, Chinese Information Processing Society of China, and a member of society council of Management Science and Engineering of China. He was selected for the project for high-level young talents of Ministry of Education of China (国家级青年人才, 2020) and Young Talents Lift-up Program (中国科协青托, 2018) of China Association for Science and Technology, also a recipient of National Key R&D Program for Young Scientists (青年科学家, 2022), Hunan Provincial Leading Talents (湖南省领军人才, 2023), Hunan Provincial Natural Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars (湖南省杰青, 2019), ACM SIGMOD China Rising Star Award (新星奖, 2018) and the 1st Prize of Innovation for young faculty at NUDT (青年创新奖, 2020).
Xiang's research interests include: Knowledge Graphs, Advanced Data Management, and Information Retrieval.2024/03: Invited to serve as a PC member of ACM CIKM 2024.
